It’s been a crazy kind of week, friends. I had three huge client deadlines to meet, one personal deadline (the kind you wait all your life to have…more on that when I can spill!), an interview (that’s a link), the first ever Kale & Caramel video shoot, a minor car accident (everyone was fine), and…now I’m totally sick in bed with a cold. What the heck?!

Needless to say, I’m kinda exhausted, my throat hurts a crap-ton, and I have seriously gross amounts of mucus. Which means it’s time to get super real about what I’m putting into my body. I could feel the ugly rhinovirus rearing its head yesterday, so I sidled up close to my Vitamix to make myself some Liquid Sunshine Immunity Juice.

This stuff is seriously ass-kicking. I’m so into it. I’m about to go make some more right now, in between nose blows. It’s got four (FOUR!!!) different kinds of citrus: Lemons, limes, sweet limes (you could use an orange or additional grapefruit if you don’t have sweet limes), and pink grapefruit. A blast of fresh ginger. Some piquante spice from a serrano chile (you could use a bit of whatever chile you’ve got in the house), and the finishing touch of heat from ground cayenne pepper.

I also threw in a pinch of sea salt, for those gosh-dang good for you minerals, and stevia, for a tad more sweetness. Optional, but that’s how I like it.

BOOM.

Servings 1

Ingredients

  • ½ large pink grapefruit deseeded and peeled
  • ¼ lemon deseeded and peeled
  • ¼ lime deseeded and peeled
  • ¼ sweet lime deseeded and peeled, or more grapefruit
  • ½- inch cut fresh ginger roughly chopped
  • 1/8- inch cut serrano chile pepper (or more to taste)
  • ½ cup cold purified water
  • pinch of sea salt (optional but trust, it’s good)
  • 2 drops liquid stevia optional
  • ground cayenne pepper for garnish

Instructions

  • Throw all ingredients except for cayenne into the blender or Vitamix. Blend on low, accelerating to high speed until everything is smooth and frothy and delicious. Pour your liquid sunshine into a glass, sprinkle with cayenne pepper, and turn into a giant glowing ball of sunshine as nourishment flows into your body.
  • L’chaim! (What?! Sometimes my Jew comes out.)
