HONEYED MELON SUGAR SCRUB.

Earlier this week, my friend Lynn and I were chatting about how I like to put food on my face. What about melon?! she mused, and I got instantaneously excited. My excitement was two-fold: 1) Because, as Lynn suspected, I really *did* want to slather my face with melon; and 2) because I had some melon in the fridge just dying to be used up.

What ensued was a scrub appropriate for face and body that is not at all pretty yet is deeply effective.

And so this post is also an ode to using things that are on the verge of spoiling, to getting creative with what you have, and to letting something far from perfect be totally ok. PHEW. I feel better already.

This scrub smells like a heady summer delight, tastes sweeter than the sweetest melon you can imagine (not that I recommend you eat it), and cleanses and rejuvenates skin with some kind of fruit enzyme super power you won’t believe. Melons contain hefty amounts of vitamins A and C, and are full of lycopene, all of which help eliminate free radicals and regenerate skin.

The result is a goopy, sherbet-colored sludge that is stickier than anything you’ve ever put on your face before, but rinses clean to reveal skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom.

Enjoy it! You’re about to get a mega dose of melon glow.

HONEYED MELON SUGAR SCRUB.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup ripe cantaloupe melon flesh some seeds are fine
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Instructions

  • Blend melon and honey in a food processor or blender until just slightly broken down—fifteen to thirty seconds.
  • Empty into a bowl (or a mortar, if you have a mortar and pestland use a spoon (or pestlto mix in sugar. You can add more or less sugar, depending on how dense you want it.
  • Apply a few tablespoons to your skin and rub in outward/upward circles across your skin. Repeat at least twice. The more you scrub, the cleaner your skin will feel after. Rinse very thoroughly once you’re done, as this stuff is super sticky.
  • If you have extra, keep in the fridge for a second application, or slather it on someone close to your heart.
